* Custom HANHART Pioneer 417 ES 1954 Flyback - made exclusively for Stewart' Watch Co.

* The reissue of the Hanhart 417 ES marks the return of a legend among wristwatches. More than 60 years ago, this historic model served as the first pilot’s chronograph for the German armed forces in the mid 1950s with three pieces of essential criteria in mind: Robustness, reliability and readability. Hanhart supplied the German armed forces with the 417 chronograph for almost ten years, until the company concentrated on building hand stopwatches in 1963. The few remaining pieces of the original 417 have become some of the most sought-after vintage chronographs from Germany.

* 140 years ago, Johann A. Hanhart set the cornerstone for Hanhart as a brand. What started as a shop selling watches swiftly evolved into a manufacture, producing wriswatches, most notably for incorporating a chronograph function. In celebration of this anniversary, Hanhart present their new 417 ES Flyback. The watch is available in two case sizes with two dial options, each of which is equipped with a manual-winding flyback calibre with integrated column wheel.

* In tribute to Hanhart's long tradition of producing chronographs, the company is bringing the flyback function back to their most popular collection. Even the historic 417 ES, originally designed for pilots of the German Air Force, was equipped with “Temposchaltung”, as the flyback function is also called. The mechanism allows immediate measurement of a new timing interval by using the reset pusher. The new, first-class AMT5100 M calibre originates from Sellita’s manufacture AMT department. It controls the chronograph via column wheel and has a power reserve of at least 58 hours when fully wound.

Tradition and Expertise since 1882.

Hanhart first began trading on July 1st 1882 when Swiss watchmaker Johann A. Hanhart opened a watch shop in Diessenhofen, north-east Switzerland. The company quickly re-located to Schwenningen, southern Germany in 1902 and found instant success in 1924 with their first affordable, mechanical stopwatch. By 1938, Hanhart were a pioneer in the production of mechanical chronograph wristwatches, designed for pilots and by the 1960s had also moved into fine timing for sports events and motor racing.

Today, Hanhart still produce a varied range of wristwatches and fine timing stopwatches, tapping into their rich heritage of mechanical watchmaking know-how to produce pieces of incredible craftmanship and functional good looks.
